Help Me Heal!

Stray Orange Tabby Fighting to Survive!

$1,000 Needed to Help Cover Immediate Emergency Surgery and Care

Dane County Humane Society, WI – a  handsome orange tabby was found in a ditch on the northeast side of Madison the morning of July 26, 2010.  It appeared that he had been hit by a car.  He had previously been neutered and was well groomed, but unfortunately, had no tag, collar or microchip so DCHS was unable to immediately contact any possible owner.  While the shelter continues to try and locate his family, he needs major surgery to survive.

After medical evaluation, the adult cat was diagnosed with a diaphragmatic hernia.  This is a hole in the sheet of muscle that separates his chest from abdoment.  This condition causes his abdominal contents to push up into his chest cavity and around his lungs making it very difficult for him to breath.  The diaphragm is the muscle that contracts and relaxes to pull air into the lungs - having a hole in it is not a good thing and needs to be repaired immediately.

Exceptional Care for Animals (ECA) is going to help with the surgery and has gratiously  agreed to donate much of the cost.  Through a special partnership with ECA, DCHS receives medical services at a reduced fee for procedures and surgeries performed on stray or abandoned animals that are then eventually transferred back to DCHS.

Please help us raise the $1,000 needed to help this extremely friendly feline boy heal!  To contribute directly to this stray cat's emergency surgery, please go to www.giveshelter..org and donate to the "Help Me Heal" Fund.  You can also mail or drop off your donation at Dane County Humane Society's main shelter (5132 Voges Road, Madison WI 53718).

We need up to $1,000 to help cover the procedure and care.  If you'd like to help, please donate to the Help Me Heal fund using our online donation page.

 ** UPDATE 7/27 **

Surgery was performed Tuesday (7/27) evening and the cat is doing very well.  His diaphram was severely torn, but was able to be repaired.  He at a little food last night and seems to be in good spirits.  The cat will continue to be monitored closely at ECA in case there are any post surgery complications.

** UPDATE 08/17 **

We are happy to report that we have reached our Help Me Heal goal for our stray orange tabby. This adorable boy came to the shelter in need of emergency surgery to save his life. He is currently doing well and recovering comfortably after his surgery. Thanks to everyone who donated to help our little orange tabby.
