Helping our Feline Friends
The Feline Friends Fund provides lifesaving donations directly to the homeless cats at Dane County Humane Society. Help support our efforts to make a difference in the lives of the thousands of cats that come through our doors. Contributions to the Feline Friends Fund support cat adoption programs, spay and neuter surgeries to help reduce chronic overpopulation, as well as outreach and educational efforts to make our community a safer, kinder place for cats. What We Do for Our Animals
All animals that enter our shelter are given special care and attention. All cats at minimum are spayed or neutered, vaccinated against Distemper and Rabies (when age appropriate), microchipped, tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and ringworm, and treated for fleas, ticks, and ear mites. Cats over 6 months also get tested for Feline AIDS (FIV). Additional vaccines are given as needed. For every cat that walks in our door, it costs approximately $70 to care for them for one week!
Meeting the Needs of Special Cats
At Dane County Humane Society, we do our best not only to provide special care and attention to homeless animals in need, but also to find happy homes where they can find comfort with a forever family.
From time to time, we do get cats that have Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) or have tested positive for Feline Leukemia (FeLV). Though both of these diseases are incurable, supportive care can lead to a good quality of life. These diseases are contagious to other cats, though, so infected cats should be kept isolated from healthy cats. For more information on these diseases, please check out our Cat Care link at http://www.giveshelter.org/sitemgr/cat_care.
Are you looking for a feline friend that is extra special? Consider giving a FIV or FeLV positive cat a chance at happiness.
